Bio-informatics is the study of the inherent structure of biological information and biological systems.
Pharmaceutical companies try to model the properties of certain proteins at the molecular level in order to ascertain what drugs would work well for them. Additionally, they must field test and analyze the results and effects of drugs and dosages.
Independent of whether the scientist or medical doctor is involved in the quantum mechanics of drug-protein interactions or trying to validate the results of field studies they must use highly complex simulations to reduce the time to discovery and time to market. These simulations and analyses are extremely computationally intensive and demand significant computational horsepower for many hours. The alternatives are to invest in or share high performance super computers or rewrite application to use parallel processors or distributed computers. Unfortunately, many of the applications currently available don't lend themselves to parallel or distributed computing environments.
SIMtone's ASPEED has developed
application specific software enhancements which
enable the reduction of the elapsed time by applying
in-box and across box parallelism for models
previously thought to be "unparallelizable"
with a Patent Pending technology.
